 Movement:

We will be playing with 4 IPs, this will make movement to be more manageable:

Movement Rules
Humans, elves, orks Walking = 3m/IP, Running = 6m/IP
Dwarfs Walking = 2m/IP, Running = 4m/IP
Trolls Walking = 4m/IP, Running = 9m/IP

Rules for Sprinting
1 success = 2m/turn or 1m/IP (rounding up)
2 success = 4m/turn or 1m/IP
3 success = 6m/turn or 2m/IP (rounding up)
4 success = 8m/turn or 2m/IP
5 success = 10m/turn or 3m/IP (rounding up)
6 success = 12m/turn or 3m/IP

This should worked rather well for us.

Also, if someone is just walking, that is free (not a free action), so someone with 1IP can move in each pass. Now, running or sprinting, does cost, so that 1IP(Initiative Pass) guy has to choose his movement in the first pass and stick to it until his next action (which would be IP 1 of the 2nd combat turn), while the 4IP guy could choose to run/sprint, each IP, as long as he has the actions to change.

As for the order, we’ll allow the movement to go before, during or after other actions, but apply the appropriate movement penalties throughout the IP. That includes cover, so someone couldn’t choose to move out of cover, stop, shoot (with no movement penalty) and then move back into cover. They could, but they are not getting the cover benefit for that pass…

Multiple Initiative Passes:

Every combat has 4 Initiative Phases (not capped by the person with the highest # of IPs)

Basically it breaks down to everybody can do a free action every initiative phase (movement, talking, etc), but can’t do simple or complex action except when they have an IP to spend doing it.

Basically the Character begins at their initiative score and starts holding their action until they choose to use it, or a new one comes along and they refresh at it.

1 IP: Player gets an Action at IP 1 that they can use in any of the 4 IPs
2 IP: Player gets Actions at IPs 1 and 3 that they can use in any of the IPs until another Action comes to them.
3 IP: Player gets Actions at IPs 2 and 3 and an additional IP at either IP 1 or 4 (their choice)
4 IP: Player gets Actions at all IPs

Future Tech

   Posted by: The GM

The problem with Sci-Fi games like Shadowrun is the writers don’t always have as vivid an imagination as scientists do.  For example, already today there is work on acoustic, microwave and light “cloaks” which allow particle waves (or sound waves in this case) to travel seamlessly around it and emerge on the other side without distortion.  (click here for the article) Another amazing thing coming is the use of silicon nanowires to harness the energy now lost as heat during production of electricity. Virtually any heat source could be used to produce electricity, even using your own body heat to recharge small devices like a cell phone.  Anyone else thinking The Matrix here?! Great thread with some very interesting ideas on how to roleplay a religious tradition within the Shadowrun magic rules.

Alternate Matrix Rules

   Posted by: The GM

Wow, there is a guy over on Dumpshock.com that is a freelance writer and Medical School student that plays Shadowrun intensely.  He has been GMing Shadowrun for years has some houserules, that I will most likely be using, that he has playtested at 500+ hours.  But more impressive is his write-up on “Alternate Matrix Rules”, on every forum and every blog the RAW for the Matrix are the most heavily modified of all.  We will be using them, he addresses nearly everything that is broken and many of these have been broken since SR1.  This is a printed 35 pages, it is the “Unwired” before the book is even released.

On the forums some do not like the “Orphaned Brianhacking” I see no issue with this as long as it is in LOS (more a touch attack).  The unmodified human brain is just not a very good receiver/transmitter, so if you wish to hack someone that doesn’t have a commlink then you better be very close.  Keep in mind nearly no one in 2071 Shadowrun doesn’t have a Commlink, unless they are in a third world country.

Art for the upcoming SR4 book

   Posted by: Rian

By the end of the year Corporate Enclaves will be released and you can check out some of the art here.  The sprawls highlighted in this book are Los Angeles and Neo-Tokyo - two very different bastions of corporate power and culture.  Also being released soon is Arsenal, maybe this year or start of next this one is badly needed.

New stuff under SR 2007

   Posted by: Rian

Check the SR 2007 page as I have added a map of Denver and a brief synopsis of the first run.  I have also posted some House rules, some which will affect anyone making their first characters.  These guys have some great house rules, the Hoosier house, seems they have been play a long time in SR2/SR3 and have just moved to SR4.  Found a new Character generator, in excel format you can get it from here.  Check often as I will be making many changes of the coming weeks.

New Shadowrun campaign first.

   Posted by: Rian

Looks like we have our first Character background for our new Shadowrun campaign.

Welcome Rath Nasser aka White Cancer (Jason’s Character)

Rath Nasser was a pointy eared child prodigy. He dreamed in numbers and code since he was born in the lab. And as such he belonged to the corporation. When he turned 10 he developed the robotic technology that allows every amputee soldier to walk or handle the pistol again, the program controlled D6T servo gave hundreds a second chance. By the time he was 13 he re engineered air foils to run totally silent by 14 he developed CamShield technology.

Read the rest over on the Shadowrun backgrounds page.
